Newcastle are very interested in Adrien Rabiot - journalist

Journalist Gianni Balzarini has told TVPlay that Newcastle United are ‘very interested’ in a deal for Adrien Rabiot, with Juventus keen to sell him next month if he is not going to sign a new contract with the Old Lady.

Rabiot’s future has been a key talking point in recent weeks. The Frenchman has been superb for Juve this season. And he took that form into the World Cup, helping France reach the final in Qatar.

His situation in Turin is very uncertain. He is out of contract with Juve at the end of the campaign.

Newcastle very interested in Adrien Rabiot

Balzarini has suggested that Massimiliano Allegri is doing his best to convince Rabiot to sign a new deal. However, there is some serious interest from the Magpies about a possible deal, with Juve open to letting him go for as little as £9 million.

“It is clear that Juventus would prefer to lose him now to make cash, obviously not the 25 million euros of last summer as agreed with United, but I think 10-15 million would now be very welcome. That said, it is not easy because he shoots high with the figures, out of budget for the Italians and high for the other European teams as well,” he told TVPlay.

“Newcastle are very interested in Rabiot and still Manchester United, but ten million is a lot. It is clear that at the same time Allegri is pushing to try to get him to renew his contract. Clearly Rabiot did not like the fact that Juventus had sold him to United, and maybe there is that array of pride, but Allegri is the only one who can really convince him.”

Amazing time to join the Magpies

It is certainly an exciting time to join Newcastle, particularly for someone potentially at the peak of their powers.

Eddie Howe’s men sit second in the Premier League table after picking up where they left off before the World Cup break. And with new owners at the helm, they have the potential to upset the apple cart in the top-flight in the next couple of years.

Rabiot is reportedly keen on a deal worth around £170,000-a-week. That is obviously an eye-watering amount for a player who has struggled to realise his potential during his career.

But clearly, Newcastle would able to afford the transfer fee with ease. And he undoubtedly possesses real quality.

So if Allegri is unable to convince Rabiot and the Juve hierarchy to reach an agreement over a new deal, perhaps there is a good chance that he could end the window on Tyneside.
