Newcastle are ‘prepared’ and ready in race to sign £37m striker if price drops

Newcastle United are keen to add a new striker to their ranks this summer.

Indeed, with Callum Wilson potentially on his way out of St James’ Park, the Magpies need a new centre-forward.

So, who could Newcastle go for? There have been strong links to a number of players in recent weeks, but perhaps the most persistant rumour has been surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Everton attacker has been linked to Newcastle recently, but that trail has gone rather quiet over the past few weeks.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Newcastle’s interest in Calvert-Lewin, and he says that the Magpies are indeed prepared to come back in for the Everton star if his price drops.

Newcastle ready to go back in for Calvert-Lewin

Jones shared what he knows about the £37m man.

“It’s true. Newcastle are prepared and they could come back in for Calvert-Lewin. They just want him at a better price and they felt Everton were asking for too much last time around. They feel that Calvert-Lewin could leave this summer and if he does leave he’s best positioned to join Newcastle,” Jones said.

Calvert-Lewin could be ideal for Newcastle

This could be an ideal signing for Newcastle this summer.

The Magpies need a striker who can rotate with Alexander Isak, and Calvert-Lewin fits that bill brilliantly.

Indeed, much like Isak, Calvert-Lewin has a unique blend of size and pace, and while he doesn’t have the same technical ability, at his best, he’s a top finisher who can score for fun.

Newcastle do need more depth in their attack, particularly if Callum Wilson is to leave the club, and they could do a lot worse than signing Calvert-Lewin in this transfer window.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
