Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes that Newcastle United have the potential to become a superpower and a dominant force in world football thanks to their £305 million takeover (BBC).

Magpies fans are over the moon to see the back of Mike Ashley, who according to many of them, was the cause of all the problems in and around Newcastle United Football Club.

The new ownership gives Newcastle supporters some much-needed hope. They now have the chance to financially compete with the biggest teams in the country, which should help them bring back their glory days.

Klopp was quizzed about the takeover and the Liverpool boss believes that Newcastle United can become a superpower if the club is run properly.

Jurgen Klopp: Takeover could make Newcastle United a superpower

The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss told Sky Deutschland: “If we are speaking about football only, then of course, in the long run, you have to say that they (Newcastle United) will be a superpower.

“This is the third club in world football that I know of that belongs to a country and that obviously belongs to the wealthiest family on the whole planet. The possibilities that open up are of course immense.

“Then Newcastle are guaranteed to play a dominant role in world football for the next 20 or 30 years. You can screw up a lot with money, but in the long run, too many good people are running around in football and Newcastle will find them too.”

With the money Newcastle are set to have at their disposal, the sky is the limit for them. No player is financially out of their reach and if they make the right decisions, they could become the new Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain.

However, things are not as easy as it seems from the outside. The financial resources the Magpies have now will certainly help, but turning a bottom-half Premier League club into world-beaters will not happen overnight.

Newcastle first need to bring in a great manager and an even better director of football. They’ve been linked with a number of big names already and if they can find the right pair, there’s every chance they’ll succeed in the coming years.
