Football journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Newcastle and West Ham are both interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay before the window shuts.

The 25-year-old Scotsman joined the Red Devils when he was just a kid. He has come through the ranks and become a regular at Old Trafford, but his time at the Theatre of Dreams may be about to come to an end.

McTominay has come under immense criticism from Manchester United supporters over the last year. Many feel the Scotsman is just not good enough to play for the Red Devils, and he may no longer be a regular starter for the club now.

United have signed Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million (Goal). The Brazilian is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, and he is a guaranteed starter in the middle of Ten Hag’s midfield.

That puts McTominay’s future up in the air, and Jones has revealed that multiple clubs are keeping an eye on him ahead of the end of the transfer window.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Yeah there is no doubt that McTominay has a few clubs looking at him.

“I know Newcastle are looking at this one closely as they contemplate adding one more midfielder to the squad. West Ham will come in for him too if he genuinely is available.”

‘Aggressive’ McTominay impresses vs Liverpool

The 25-year-old will be the first one to admit that his performances have mostly been below par for over a year now. However, he definitely had a positive game against Liverpool last night.

The Sun gave McTominay an 8/10 rating and wrote: “Aggressive in the tackle as he made life tough for Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

iNews gave him a 7/10 rating and claimed that he ‘kept Milner quiet all game’, while Sky Sports rated him 8/10 and raved about his ‘solid’ display against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

McTominay definitely has his flaws, but on his day, he really is a very good player.
