Newcastle and Everton set to lose out on James Rodriguez, player wants Atletico Madrid move

Newcastle United could be set for a bitter blow in their bid to land James Rodriguez, with the player reportedly keen on a move to Atletico Madrid this summer.

According to Onda Cero, the Colombian international has no desire to leave the Spanish capital. This, despite reported interest from the likes of Newcastle.

The Magpies are looking in the market at the moment as they seek a marquee signing for their potential new owners.

And while their prospective takeover is not complete yet, the club is still keeping a keen eye on the market. With football set to take a heavy financial hit, Newcastle’s new owners know they could well blow other clubs out of the water.

However, it appears Rodriguez could be out of the question in terms of potential signings.

This could also represent a blow to the likes of Wolves and Everton, who have both expressed an interest in the player.

Rodriguez got a big-money move to Madrid following the World Cup in 2014. However, he has since struggled to hold down a regular place for Los Blancos. Indeed, he has spent the last couple of seasons with Bayern Munich.

It appears, though, that Rodriguez has his family settled in Spain and will seek a move to Madrid’s bitter rivals this summer.

A big blow for Newcastle as a realistic signing slips away – TBR View

This could be a big blow for Newcastle, really.

James Rodriguez is one of the so-called ‘big name’ players who the club would have had a realistic hope of landing in the upcoming transfer window.

And while he’s not been at his best for a while, you get the impression he might thrive in the northeast.

This one still has legs, though. Much more will become clear once the Newcastle takeover is sorted. Until then, moves like this will continue to be discussed.
