Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to report that Newcastle are long-term admirers of Andrey Santos and have a good relationship with his agents, but the Brazilian will cost more than £25.9 million.

Santos may well become one of the latest prospects to swap Brazil for one of Europe’s biggest leagues. He is certainly making an impression with Vasco da Gama.

The 18-year-old has scored seven goals in the second tier this term. And it seems that he could soon be offered the chance to move to the Premier League.

90min has previously suggested that Newcastle are monitoring Santos. And he has now provided a further update on Twitter, suggesting that they have a good relationship with the people around the teenager.

According to Transfermarkt, Santos is represented by the same people as Bruno Guimaraes.

Meanwhile, Romano added that Vasco da Gama do not intend to let Santos leave on the cheap…

Newcastle are definitely going to be one side to watch in the coming windows. They have spent money under the new owners. But they have not thrown cash around in a scattergun manner.

Much of their business has been incredibly shrewd. And that will leave their supporters feeling incredibly optimistic about the players they pursue in the future.

Obviously, paying over £26 million for Santos – who was born just a few days before Didier Drogba scored twice for Marseille in a 2-0 win over Newcastle in 2004 – will seem like a gamble to many.

It would be a remarkable sum for a player who may need a lot of time to adapt to his new surroundings.

But of course, given the success of the deal to sign Bruno, Newcastle fans may well be in favour of signing another Brazilian midfielder with an incredibly high ceiling.
