Newcastle Karl Darlow faced a nightmare 10 days after catching Covid-19 last week.
What’s the story?
It emerged two weeks ago Darlow had caught the virus and, as a result, was forced to miss the pre-season training camp in York.
The player was sent home by the club to self-isolate, alongside teammates Mark Gillespie and Freddie Woodman, who were deemed close contacts.
However, things quickly took a turn for the worst for the 30-year-old.
What has Darlow said?
In an interview with Sky Sports, Darlow has claimed he is slowly improving after his time in hospital.
The Englishman faced a stint in hospital after becoming increasingly dehydrated, but, has now been released.
When talking about his struggles, the ace said: “I had to go to hospital last week which was pretty awful – but I’m slowly improving now despite still feeling a bit rough. This shows the virus is still going about and we still need to be careful with it.”

Newcastle sent warning: Darlow a reminder anyone can struggle with Covid
Everyone associated with Newcastle has been sent a warning, anyone can struggle with Covid as Darlow has shown.
A fit and healthy athlete, who has their body in the best possible condition has been hospitalised.
If this doesn’t trigger a sense of cautiousness over the virus, then nothing will.
Lives have been lost thanks to this very deadly disease, and despite having reached the so-called ‘freedom day‘, more needs to be done.
And with the Premier League just under three weeks away from returning, fans couldn’t have been handed a better reminder.
Taking caution is paramount as supporters look to return to their rightful place, the terraces.
Meanwhile, Newcastle could land an ‘unbelievable’ ace as one club completed a deal
