Yesterday it was being reported that Newcastle United are interested in the Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez.
SportBild reported that the Magpies had made contact regarding the player’s availability after his difficult first season at the Allianz Arena. Injuries have seen Hernandez lose his left-back spot to Alphonso Davies whilst he has also struggled to muscle his way in at centre-back since a reported (Guardian) £68 million move from Atletico Madrid.
With that in mind, soon to be moneybags Newcastle were seemingly keen on bringing Hernandez in this summer.
However, a new report has suggested that Hernandez is unlikely to be heading to St James’ Park.
Fichajes Futbol has made it clear that the Frenchman wants to remain at Bayern for next season and is calm about his position at the club. It is also made clear that, as of yet, Newcastle have not had any contact with the player or his entourage.
Whether that means Newcastle did not put the feelers out to Bayern regarding Hernandez is up for debate.
But even if Bayern were to consider a potential exit, it seems that the French World Cup winner is intent on sticking it out at the Allianz Arena.
Newcastle United fans can probably expect a host of new transfer links over the next few months, but Hernandez appears to be one they can ignore.
