Everton have been given the major boost that summer signing Andre Gomes could finally make his debut at the weekend in the Premier League against Crystal Palace.

Manager Marco Silva confirmed that the 25-year-old is in contention for his first Toffees appearance since he joined on loan from Barcelona.

The Merseyside club host Crystal Palace on Sunday at Goodison Park and are currently 11th in the league table, but are going in search of a third consecutive league victory.

Silva’s possession-based attacking philosophy has started to creep into Everton during the last few games and the manager’s era can really kick into full gear with the introduction of Gomes.

The central midfielder could be the missing link for them, as he’s a pass master that will keep them ticking over if he can adjust to the Premier League quickly.

Gomes’ range of passing and intelligence on the ball will give Everton a different dimension in the centre of the park, which should blend nicely alongside the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin, James McCarthy and Tom Davies.

The Portugal international could be a talisman for Silva on the pitch if he can rediscover the kind of form that earned him a move to Barcelona back in 2016.

Gomes was one of the eye-catching additions made in the summer and is another important piece of the jigsaw that could slot in against Palace.
