'New direct contacts': Fabrizio Romano says 'fantastic' £35m striker is now 'on top' of Arsenal's wish list

Gabriel Jesus Arsenal

It is no secret at this point that Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus this summer, and Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the potential transfer.

The Gunners will be on the market for at least one new striker, if not two. Alexandre Lacazette is almost guaranteed to leave the club as a free agent this summer, while Eddie Nketiah is likely to follow the same path – even though he has played a lot over the last few weeks.

A new, prolific forward is an absolute necessity for the Gunners this summer and Jesus, who has been in incredible form recently, would really be a fantastic signing.

If Romano is to be believed, the Brazilian’s camp is interested in a move as well.

Fabrizio Romano: Gabriel Jesus is on top of Arsenal’s list

The Athletic revealed last month that Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Jesus and that Edu has been in talks with the striker’s representatives for months now.

Football London backed that claim soon after and further revealed that the Gunners are set to table a bid of £35million to sign the talented 25-year-old this summer.

Manchester City confirmed the signing of Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland yesterday. The Norwegian’s arrival means he’ll be the club’s new centre-forward for years to come, and Jesus’ agents are well aware of that.

As a result, they are considering their options, and Romano has now revealed that new, direct contacts on the player’s side have taken place.

Exciting times for Arsenal fans

Despite the inexperience and the lack of squad depth, Mikel Arteta currently has a solid squad at his disposal. New additions will only make Arsenal stronger, and signing Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans would be a great way to start the summer.

The Manchester City man has scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions this season. He’s clinical in front of goal, can link play up really well and has a sensational work ethic too. Branded as a ‘fantastic talent’ by Paul Dickov, he could well be the answer to Arsenal’s problems up top.

Tielemans would also be a fine signing. Like Jesus, he knows the Premier League well, is excellent at what he does and is only 25. He’d be a fine signing for the Gunners and a quality upgrade on Granit Xhaka in that number eight role.

The summer transfer window is just around the corner and Arsenal fans have a lot to be excited about. They’ll be hoping Edu and Arteta can get these two deals over the line as early as possible.
