New contract would complete Origi’s Liverpool turnaround after 2018 exit links

Divock Origi is set for talks over a new Liverpool contract after his midweek Champions League heroics, according to the Daily Star.

They report that the Belgian international, who netted twice as the Reds sensationally overcame Barcelona 4-0 on Tuesday to book their place in the Champions League final has just one year left on his current deal.

But Origi is now apparently set for an extended deal after his heroics against the Catalans, which would complete an impressive and unexpected turnaround.

Sports Illustrated reported back in December that Jurgen Klopp wanted rid of Origi in order to fund an attacking improvement in his squad – and there wouldn’t have been too many eyebrows raised or complaints.

But with Origi also having come up with vital goals in the title race against Everton and Newcastle, he has established himself as someone who can make a difference from the bench.

Attacking depth is one of Liverpool’s biggest perceived weaknesses and there may be some fans who still want to see improvements despite Origi’s impressive antics.

But it shows the strength of his character that he’s battled back into contention and he may well be relied upon again on Sunday as Liverpool seek one final push in the race for the Premier League.
