Oliver Sarkic has posted on Twitter after the attacker’s move from Leeds United to League One side Burton Albion was confirmed on Thursday – and he has thanked Leeds for the two years he spent at the club.

Sarkic, 22, joined Leeds from Benfica in the summer of 2017 – joining the club’s reserve side on loan before the move was made permanent soon after. But the Montenegro youth international failed to make a single senior appearances.

Instead, he a was a regular in the club’s Under-23 side during his first year at the club, scoring plenty of goals. That perhaps earned the ex-Anderlecht youth player a loan move to Spanish minnows Barakaldo CF.

But Sarkic struggled in Spain, managing just 12 outings and scoring only one goal. Following a Leeds release and trial at Nigel Clough’s Burton, the striker has signed a one-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium and posted on Twitter.

TBR’s view – Sarkic never had a chance at Leeds

Unfortunately, the depth of the Under-23 side never gave Sarkic a chance. Ryan Edmondson scored for fun last season in Carlos Corberan’s side, while Kun Temenuzhkov also stands a chance of breaking into the senior side.

Sarkic needed to have a sparkling season where he scored regularly and started most matches at Barakaldo. It could not have been more the opposite for Sarkic, who is the brother of Aston Villa goalkeeper Matija.

A one-year deal at Burton shows the League One side are not particularly convinced, but they can promise game time and he could turn out to be a gem.
