Neville Southall is glad to see the back of Ademola Lookman after Everton confirmed they have sold the attacker to German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Lookman, 22, joined Everton from Charlton Athletic in January 2017 and scored on his debut in a 4-0 win over Manchester City. But he has failed to live up to the hype since that match.
In two and a half seasons on the books at Everton, he has clocked up just 48 appearances for the Toffees. In that time, he has managed only four goals. Goal claims Everton have received £22million for his signature.
Lookman went on loan to Leipzig during the second half of the 2017-18 season and it has seen him return a year after leaving the German side. Southall reacted to the move, with a one-word Tweet saying: “Good”, before going into more detail.
TBR’s view – £22m is good Everton business for Lookman
There is no doubt that Lookman is a talent and with game time, he could finally reach the potential that he showed in his debut against Manchester City.
But at Everton, with wingers such as Theo Walcott, Richarlison and Bernard, his chances of breaking into Marco Silva’s side were unlikely. Indeed, he hardly got a start under Silva last term.
For Everton to bring in double what they paid for him despite a disappointing spell at Goodison Park is superb business.
