Everton took on Preston North End in a pre-season friendly yesterday, with the Toffees securing a 2-0 win over the Championship side. Goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jonjoe Kenny saw Carlo Ancelotti’s men come out with the win and there was plenty to be positive about for Everton fans after the game.

One of those positives was the display of young goalkeeper Harry Tyrer.

With Jordan Pickford, Jonas Lossl, and Joao Virginia all away on international duty, the 18-year-old got a chance to impress in the Everton first-team.

Impress he did, with a decent display in between the sticks in which he made one very impressive save in the first half.

It was a great display and a debut for the teen that he will likely never forget.

After the game, he was quick to share his joy at featuring in the match on Twitter.

On top of that, he received some positive words from a bonafide Everton goalkeeping legend.

Neville Southall was an Everton player for 17 years and won the league title on two occasions with the club, the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1985, and was considered the best goalkeeper in the world for a large part of his time at Goodison Park.

He sent a message of support to Tyrer after the game, which will have undoubtedly made the youngster’s day complete.

Hopefully, this can be the start of a bright career at Everton for the youngster.
