Gary Neville has responded during a Q&A session on Twitter when asked where he expects Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to be next season – and the pundit gave a tongue-in-cheek six-word response.
Kane, 27, has been exceptional once again this season – with his own stats again eclipsing that of his teammates. The England captain has an incredible 36 goal involvements in just 34 games – scoring 22 and creating 14 more.
He has altered his game under Jose Mourinho, dropping deeper and becoming much more creative. However, with Spurs languishing in eighth place in the Premier League – Kane’s future is up for discussion once again.
Spurs do have a chance of silverware this season, sitting in the Carabao Cup final and remaining in the Europa League – but, his future is in doubt. Asked where he will be next season, Neville suggested the Europa League.
It is slightly tongue-in-cheek from Neville, given the fan was suggesting if Kane – or indeed, Erling Haaland – would be at a different club to Tottenham Hotspur next season – or Borussia Dortmund.
TBR’s view – What do Spurs need to keep Kane?
Glenn Hoddle put it plainly in a recent interview with BeIN Sports. He stated that Kane will stay if Spurs show signs of silverware under Mourinho – and that this season, they need a trophy or they must finish in the top four.
The latter looks unlikely. Although they have a game in hand, the likes of Leicester, Chelsea, Manchester United and even West Ham are proving more consistent. But there are a lot of points to play for and they have a chance.
A trophy could be their better chance of keeping Kane. A one-off final against Manchester City gives them a big chance of winning the Carabao Cup, while they are one of the biggest sides still in the Europa League.
