'Never thought I'd see the day': Some Leeds fans react as Bamford is set to for England debut
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford will make his senior debut with England this evening against Andorra.
According to the Athletic, Gareth Souhtgate will hand the 28-year-old attacker his first-ever start for the Three Lions. Bamford was called up for England for the first time in his career after a bright start to the season.
Indeed, the former Middlesbrough star has been knocking on the door for an international call-up for the past 12 months. Bamford was one of the best performing strikers in the Premier League last season.
The striker bagged 17 goals in his first full season with Leeds in the English top-flight. And now, Bamford has been rewarded with his fine form with a senior England call-up.
With Kalvin Phillips a mainstay for England in this current era of the national team, Leeds’ impact on the squad continues to grow with Bamford now part of the squad.
And against Andorra, there is a strong chance that Bamford can mark his international debut, as well as his birthday, with a goal against the European minnows.
Of course, Leeds fans on social media are buzzing that Bamford will start for England later today. The striker defied expectations last season with his incredible goal-scoring form for the Yorkshire side.
Here’s what some fans had to say about Bamford on Twitter…
