‘Never’… Pundit says there’s one thing Unai Emery has at Aston Villa that he never had at Arsenal

Unai Emery has been utterly brilliant as the manager of Aston Villa.

The Spaniard has transformed the Midlands club from relegation contenders to title candidates over the past 12 months.

Emery has completely transformed his reputation in the Premier League after a sorry stint at Arsenal, but, this time, it’s different.

Speaking on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy, John Giles has been discussing Emery’s brilliance at Villa, and he says that there’s one thing he has at Villa Park that he never had at the Emirates – buy-in from the playing squad.

Emery has his players on side at Villa

Giles shared what he’s noticed about Emery.

“He’s been there long enough to get them playing the way he wants them to play. The players then get confidence in the manager, he’s got the players on his side and I think at Arsenal he never had that, he never had the players on his side to do what was needed to be done,” Giles said.

Difficult

Emery never had the players on side at Arsenal, but, to be honest, we can understand why.

When you replace a man like Arsene Wenger, it’s almost impossible to get the players on your side from day one, and, to be honest, that Arsenal team was a bit of a nightmare.

We’ve seen in years since under Mikel Arteta that the likes of Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Matteo Guendouzi weren’t necessarily the most consummate of professionals during their time at Arsenal, and that meant that Emery was fighting an uphill battle from day one.

Emery is an incredible manager, and with the right group of players in the right circumstances he can work wonders, but, unfortunately, he was the right man at the wrong time when he was at Arsenal.

Emery has completely transformed his reputation at Villa, and it’s been brilliant to see him doing so well.
