Never mind Ruben Neves, Wolves cannot lose Diogo Jota this summer

Wolverhampton Wanderers will not be contesting this year’s FA Cup final, after they relinquished a 2-0 lead to Watford in the semi-final to lose 3-2 (BBC Sport).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were moments away from booking their place against Manchester City, only for Troy Deeney to equalise from the penalty spot at the death.

Gerard Deulofeu then scored the winner in extra-time to break Wolves hearts.

It will be difficult to stomach for the Black Country club having played well for large parts of the game.

There were great individual performances throughout the side, but one man in particular really caught the eye.

TBR’s view

While Raul Jimenez scored a great goal, it was Diogo Jota who really stood out for Wolves at Wembley.

The Portuguese attacker was superb for Espirito Santo’s team, providing both industry and technical quality.

He was a constant threat and it was no coincidence that Wolves lost momentum when he was substituted off.

Jota has really started to shine for Wolves in the second half of the season after a sluggish start.

There’s been a lot of talk about Ruben Neves and his ability. The popular playmaker is a talented young player who Wolves need to keep, but Jota is someone the club simply cannot afford to lose.

What he brings to the table would be very difficult to try and replace, and his partnership with Jimenez has truly began to blossom.

There have been no early reports of any clubs interested in signing him this summer, and Wolves will certainly hope it stays that way.
