‘Never heard so much rubbish’: Roy Keane angry over what he’s hearing about Tottenham’s Harry Kane

Gary Neville and Roy Keane have both disagreed on The Overlap over the future of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

To stay or go?

Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, and the way he has conducted himself has created some debate.

Kane insists that he has never stayed away from Tottenham training, but his return to Hotspur Way was indeed delayed.

The striker could actually be back with Spurs today, as they build up to the Premier League season.

But Neville thinks something bad has happened behind the scenes to cause Kane to act in such a manner.

“Something behind the scenes has happened,” Neville began. “I don’t know what it is that has annoyed him, I genuinely don’t. I didn’t have an off the cuff conversation with Harry and say ‘what’s going on’. I genuinely didn’t, everything he said was on camera.

“But for him to do what he’s done, he must feel badly wronged.”

Neville then went on to ask a Tottenham fan, who was stationed in the audience a question.

He said: “Who do you trust most, you’ve never met them probably, but who do you trust most looking from the outside as a Tottenham fan – Harry Kane or Daniel Levy? And who do you think has lied to one another?”

But Keane was not particularly happy with his former Manchester United teammate’s thinking.

He argued: “You keep using this word trust. Where does trust come into it? What has trust got to do with you and your football club?

“You’re signing a professional contract with them. You can’t say ‘by the way next year, can you let me go’?

“It’s not about who do you trust the most. Harry Kane is going to look after his own interest, and Spurs are going to look after theirs. There’s nothing wrong with that.

“But this idea that you can say last year you promised me this, I’ve never heard so much rubbish in my life.”

Keane over Neville?

Tottenham fans are likely to be more on Keane’s side of the debate than Neville’s.

Kane has locked himself into a six year contract at Spurs, which means that situation is now fairly simple – if City don’t pay the price Tottenham want, he won’t be going anywhere.

Spurs are expected to demand a huge figure for Kane.

But City have already shown their pulling power this summer by landing Jack Grealish, and it would hardly come as a surprise if they were able to clinch a deal to sign Tottenham’s talisman too.
