Nemanja Vidic has told Stadium Astro that he believes Manchester United should sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, but that he is not a main priority this summer.
Alderweireld, who turned 30 earlier this month, has been constantly linked with a move to Manchester United. He signed a new contract in January to keep him at Spurs until the summer of 2020.
However, that deal may have pushed him closer to an exit. That is because the contract includes a clause worth £25million. If that figure is met by bidding clubs, Spurs have no choice but to accept.
Manchester United legend Vidic was asked if Spurs need Alderweireld. Although he wants to see the Belgian in a Red Devils shirt, he also claimed that United have bigger priorities.

“Of course, I would like to see him there,” Vidic said. “But I think the club has to have a priority. If you want to be in the Champions League next season and challenge for the Premier League, you have to strengthen the midfield.
“You need that depth in the midfield area. In defence they already have five players, so they can rotate, and it seems like they’re doing well.”
TBR’s view
Alderweireld would be an excellent signing for any club in the world. Even for the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, Alderweireld would surely be first choice.
Keeping him at Spurs, then, is absolutely crucial. Whether Mauricio Pochettino can do that, is a different story.
The Argentine boss has to convince both Daniel Levy to offer him more money, and convince Alderweireld that trophies are on the horizon.
