Neil Warnock has told talkSPORT what he jokingly said to Jose Mourinho before he took the manager’s job at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portuguese replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs in November 2019, leading the north Londoners to a sixth-placed finish in his debut season in charge.
However, Tottenham struggled this season, sitting five points adrift of the Champions League places at the time of Mourinho’s departure.

Spurs also suffered an embarrassing Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb in March and conceded five goals as Everton knocked them out of the FA Cup in the fifth round.
As a result, Mourinho was sacked just under a fortnight ago, with Ryan Mason taking temporary charge of Tottenham until the end of the season.
“He knew how to get results against the very best, even when he didn’t have the best,” Warnock told talkSPORT. “I’ve got nothing but good to say about him.”
And in terms of where Mourinho will go next, Warnock hopes it’ll be in Spain or somewhere else sunny.
“I said to him last time when he went to Tottenham, before then, I asked him to get Real Madrid again because I fancied a long weekend in Spain!
“But he got Tottenham instead, so hopefully next he’ll get a nice place for me to visit!”
Mourinho told The Times – as quoted by Sky Sports – that he is no rush to return to management and will “wait to be back in football” after being sacked by Spurs.
