Neil Mellor has told Goal that he believes Harry Wilson has a future at Liverpool and thinks the versatile midfielder could be a good squad player for Jurgen Klopp, after the Wales international impressed on loan at Bournemouth.
Wilson, 23, joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2019 on a season-long loan from Liverpool. He has since scored six goals in 23 Premier League fixtures for the Cherries, netting against Manchester City and a brace at Tottenham.
The Daily Express have recently claimed that Liverpool’s sporting director Michael Edwards is confident he could bring in a whopping £30million for Wilson’s signature. The report claims the money could be used to fund a move for Timo Werner.
Former Liverpool striker Mellor was asked during a Q&A session on Goal whether he thinks Wilson has a future at Anfield, and Mellor is confident that the Wales ace does – but only as a squad player under Jurgen Klopp.

“I’ve always liked Harry. People have always been asking ‘Is he good enough?’ but look at him. He scores goals and he creates goals, and that’s what you want. He’s always done that throughout his youth days at Liverpool,” Mellor said.
“He can do it in the Championship, and now he’s gone to the Premier League, which he should have done last season. I think he’s a great option to be around Liverpool’s squad. He might not start many, but he’s a good player to have in the squad.”
TBR’s view – Should Wilson stay, or look for another path?
Certainly, Wilson has enormous quality. Whether it is his ability to curl a free-kick into the top corner, or cut inside and lash home an effort from outside the penalty area, Wilson can score, create and excite.
But is he good enough for Liverpool? Xherdan Shaqiri is very similar to Wilson and is struggling to get into the Reds side. If Shaqiri goes, Wilson would be a good substitute for the Swiss star. But surely Wilson has to leave to get regular game time.
