Neil McCann discusses what Rangers would sell Alfredo Morelos for in January

Neil McCann has been quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times as saying that it would take an offer of around £25million for Rangers to sell Alfredo Morelos in January – similar to the fee Celtic received for Kieran Tierney following his Arsenal switch.

Morelos, 23, has been in absolutely stunning form for Rangers this season – as he notched another brace on Sunday at Hampden Park to push Rangers into the final of the League Cup where they will meet their Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Indeed, Morelos now has an enormous 20 goals for the season in just 24 league and cup appearances. He has also laid on six assists, creating Rangers’ first on Sunday for Filip Helander. His discipline has also dramatically improved.

Last season, Morelos was sent off five times and he is yet to see red this time around. A worry for Rangers fans will be Morelos’ comments to Colombian outlet Radio Blu, claiming he could leave in January – but McCann believes it would take £25million.

“I can’t see for the life of me the board entertaining Morelos going unless it was stupid money,” McCann said. “I mean, it would have to be crazy cash – £25million plus, maybe, Kieran Tierney money.

“I think Gerrard would argue yes [worth more than £25m], because I think they have a genuine opportunity of winning the Premiership. I’m sure he would argue if you sell Morelos in January then you throw away the chance of getting that trophy.”

Dembele left Celtic in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £19.7million (BBC), scoring 51 goals in 94 Celtic outings and helping the Hoops win the first two trebles under Brendan Rodgers. But he was sold to Lyon, where he is on fire.

He scored 20 times in 46 games last season – 16 of which came from the bench. This season, he has eight goals in 14 games and is being linked with a much more expensive move to the Premier League.

So, is Morelos better? Dembele scored at a ratio of one goal every 1.84 games at Celtic, while Morelos is currently scoring a goal every 1.69 games – after netting 68 in 115. However, he lacks the silverware. It is close, but Morelos perhaps just edges it.
