Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that the club plans to give Callum McGregor a bumper new contract. As reported by The Daily Record, Lennon has said that Celtic will work to get a deal over the line to fend off interest from others.
McGregor is currently under contract until 2023 but he has still been attracting attention from the Premier League. Celtic plan to hold onto McGregor and Lennon has revealed that an improved contract will be offered.

Speaking before the 2-0 loss at Livingston, Lennon said (via The Daily Record): “We held on to him and it’s important we do the right thing. The principled thing is to give him a new deal, he deserves it.
“There was no confirmation of a bid but there was definite interest. In the talks we’ve had so far, Callum is receptive to staying. I don’t know how long he has left but we’re hoping to give him an improved contract anyway.”
McGregor has been a key part of Celtic’s midfield under Lennon and for managers before that. The 26-year-old operates in a number of positions and has racked up a tally of 39 goals and 47 assists in nearly 250 outings for the Bhoys. Lennon is desperate to keep him at Celtic Park.
TBR’s view
McGregor is arguably one of Celtic’s most important players and that is reflected in the amount of time he spends on the pitch. Lennon does not seem to trust the midfield without McGregor pulling the strings in there.
On his day, the Scotland international can be a class act – justifying Lennon’s faith in him. He had a bad day at the office against Livingston – along with everyone else – but he should bounce back with his manager’s faith in him.
