Celtic manager Neil Lennon has admitted he could be interested in bringing Victor Wanyama back to Parkhead.

The Kenyan dynamo is currently out of favour at Tottenham Hotspur, and speculation earlier this year linked him with a return to the Bhoys (Daily Record), who he left in 2013.

Jose Mourinho hasn’t yet commented about his prospects, but the new Spurs boss hasn’t used him in any of his first two games.

Lennon was asked whether the club would move for Wanyama in a press conference on Wednesday.

He responded (Daily Record): “[We’re looking] for a player like Wanyama, it’s about availability. They [Tottenham] have had a change of manager, then there’s affordability.

“Would I like Wanyama in the building? Of course.

“But it may not be an area we are looking to add to because of the way the midfield is functioning.”

TBR’s view – Celtic should ask about a loan

Lennon may be happy with how well-stocked his midfield is, but Wanyama could still improve the strength in depth.

After his injury problems, it could be a nice environment for him to get back playing.

Fans would love to see the powerhouse back in a Celtic shirt, but it’s as Lennon says, it’s about affordability.

With Spurs Wanyama earns £65,000-a-week (Spotrac), so the player would surely have to take a pay cut, or move on loan and have part of his wages paid by Spurs.
