Neil Lennon begs Celtic board to sign Fraser Forster permanently

Neil Lennon is desperate for Celtic to sign Fraser Forster on a permanent deal, The Daily Record reports.

Lennon will ask the Celtic hierarchy to do all in their power to sign Forster permanently. The popular goalkeeper is on loan from Southampton and his performances have been exceptional.

It is Forster’s second stint in Glasgow and he is a fan favourite. He added to his reputation among Celtic fans with his man of the match performance in the League Cup final against Rangers last Sunday.

Up against bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers, Celtic won the cup with a narrow 1-0 victory. The Bhoys had Forster to thank for keeping them in the game, especially when he saved Alfredo Morelos’ penalty.

After the cup final, Lennon expressed his desire to sign Forster permanently. He said (via The Daily Record): “It’s about affordability. That’s something we can talk about. I’ll talk to the player but first we have to make the call to Southampton and I’ll need to speak to Peter (Lawwell) about that.

“Is it beyond us? I don’t know. Would I love to do it? Of course, but we have to be realistic at times and we can’t go overboard either.”

TBR’s view

Forster was unbeatable between the sticks on Sunday and this has been the case for most of the year. The giant Englishman is back to his best form after a miserable stint at Southampton.

The 31-year-old would probably jump at the chance to make Celtic his permanent home. But wages are a stumbling block and his form could convince Southampton to either keep him or bump up the price.
