'Negotiations are underway': £17.5m-rated midfielder says he's spoken to Leeds, wants to play under Jurgen Klopp
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has told Sportall that talks are ongoing with numerous clubs over a potential move this summer. Rubin Kazan winger Kvaratskhelia name checks Leeds as a club he has spoken to, while also claiming he would love to play under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Kvaratskhelia, 20, has enjoyed a brilliant campaign with Rubin Kazan. Clocking up 23 appearances in all competitions, the eight-time Georgia international has had a hand in 12 goals – scoring four and creating eight. He has been strongly linked with a move to numerous clubs.
Russian outlet Soccer.Ru claimed in May that Leeds wanted Kvaratskhelia – and that the winger would cost a figure in the region of £17.5million. Now, he has commented on a move – stating talks have been held with Leeds and other clubs. He also states he would love to play under Klopp.
“I can not confirm anything at this stage, but negotiations are underway with a number of teams. Everything is entering a crucial phase,” Kvaratskhelia said. “There were negotiations with Leeds, they may continue. The most interesting thing will be working with Jürgen Klopp.”
Is Kvaratskhelia worth the £17.5million figure outlay for Leeds – or Liverpool?
The youngster has impressed in what is an ever-improving Russian Premier League. Not only that, but he has already broken into his country’s senior side and scored three times. He is clearly capable of magic, and is only going to get better. His name has attracted numerous big clubs.
But right now, is he worth such a big asking price? It is difficult to tell. He is starring at the level in which he is playing – but can he hack the step up to Premier League football? It is an unknown and at that price, it is a risk.
