Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Harvey Elliott for his latest impressive display for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they wrapped up their pre-season programme with an emphatic victory.

The Reds took on Neil Critchley’s Blackpool at Anfield and ran out 7-2 winners, although alarm bells rang early on when the visitors opened the scoring after just 15 minutes and were then two to the good by the 33rd minute.

An error at the back allowed CJ Hamilton to capitalise and score, before Jerry Yates netted a penalty, but Liverpool were able to halve the deficit before the half was over thanks to Joel Matip’s header.

The Reds then made amends for their poor first half with six goals after the interval, Sadio Mane equalising and Roberto Firmino putting the hosts in front before the hour mark.

Elliott then came off the bench in the 62nd minute, replacing Mohamed Salah, and soon grabbed his first Liverpool goal, slamming home off the post after latching on to Divock Origi’s throughball.

Takumi Minamino and Origi then got onto the scoresheet before Elliott provided a neat layoff for fellow youngster Sepp van den Berg to net their seventh from close range.

While many of Liverpool’s players earned plaudits for their second-half displays, Elliott came for special praise, bearing in mind how impressive he is despite being just 17.
