‘Need to stop him’: Pochettino says Chelsea have to get a grip on £22m Tottenham player on Monday

Chelsea take on Tottenham on Monday night and some familiar faces such as Heung-Min Son and more will be there for Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino worked closely with Son while at Tottenham and was one of the driving forces behind the South Korean rising to become one of the best players in the league.

This Monday, Pochettino and his Chelsea side will be against the in-form Son. He is a player the Blues must stop if they’re to win.

And that thought was not lost on Pochettino, who admitted that ‘Sonny’ is indeed a player his Chelsea players have to stop playing well.

Pochettino wants Heung-Min Son to have a bad game v Chelsea

Speaking in his press conference to Football.London, Pochettino spoke fondly of Son.

However, he made no bones about the need to prevent Son from playing well, admitting he hopes the Tottenham forward has an off night on Monday.

“My centre-back needs to stop him. We know him and he’s a fantastic player. One of the best players in the Premier League. Hope it’s not going to be a good night for him,” Pochettino said.

Son has been in remarkable form this season and is well in contention for the Golden Boot at this early stage.

Deployed more centrally by Ange Postecoglou, the £22m forward is back at the level he showed a few seasons back when he claimed the scoring title.

Chelsea must stop Tottenham’s key men

It’s not rocket science really, but Pochettino is right, his team must stop Son and some others in order to win.

The likes of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski can also have a huge impact but the speed and form of Son makes him a problem this Monday.

If Chelsea can somehow stop Sonny from getting in behind for chances, then the game will be tight.

However, should the Spurs man start well and get a hold over Chelsea’s defence, then it could be a long old night for the Blues.
