Nedum Onuoha has described Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez as a “joy to watch” and “every defender’s nightmare”.
The Algeria international has looked much brighter in recent weeks and was fantastic in Tuesday night’s 4-1 Premier League win over Wolves.
Mahrez impressed from the off and created the first goal with a wonderful first touch after collecting Rodri’s long pass.
He was a constant threat for City down the right with his close control and trickery, and Jonny and Ki-Jana Hoever simply could not contain him.
Mahrez was subsequently involved in the build-up for the second and then got on the scoresheet himself to seal all three points with a cool finish.
The £120,000-a-week star has played a key part in City’s outstanding run of 21 consecutive victories in all competitions, the latest of which puts them 15 points clear at the league summit.
“I love him. I think he’s one of many players in the team who don’t necessarily get the headlines but do a great job for the team,” Onuoha said on the “We’re Not Really Here” matchday show.
“It’s a blessing to have people like him on the field who can do something a bit different.
“He’s getting some isolations there one on one, and I’m just there in the background making all types of noises by the stuff I’m seeing.
“It’s unique, it’s special, it’s part of the system but it’s a joy to watch and long may it continue.”
Last season, Mahrez was one of City’s best players, one of the most creative attackers in the league.
Even though he struggled for form earlier this season due to a lack of pre-season, the 30-year-old has kicked on massively this season.
City look destined for Premier League glory and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them get all four trophies this term – they really are that good.
