Aston Villa are interested in a number of players this summer as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. One name which has already been mentioned is that of Neal Maupay.
The Frenchman played under Dean Smith at Brentford and was one of the top scorers in the Championship last term. As reported last week by The Sun, Aston Villa are preparing a £20 million swoop for the lethal marksman.
With Aston Villa needing a replacement for the Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham a move for Maupay certainly makes sense.
However, he might have an interesting first day at Bodymoor Heath should Aston Villa get the deal done.

At the start of last season a Brentford side, then managed by Smith, battled to a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa. Maupay was the impressive scorer of both Bees goals and his performance certainly set a marker for his own personal season.
But his night should have ended early. Maupay stamped on John McGinn during the clash, an incident caught on camera. The incident should have seen the striker receive his marching orders but the referee did not see the offence.
“I reviewed the incident with Neal and spoke to him this morning. He understands the severity of his action and that he will be suspended for three games. We did not want to prolong the process so have accepted the charge immediately.”
Indeed, just a few days later, Maupay accepted a charge of violent conduct and received a three-game suspension for the incident. Smith himself highlighted how Maupay had been reprimanded over the issue, as reported on Brentford’s official website.
If Maupay does make the move to Aston Villa, he might have an awkward apology in McGinn’s direction coming.
