Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele shone against Manchester City on matchday one of the Champions League.
The Frenchman was excellent in the engine room at the Etihad Stadium and showed some neat touches, tough tackling and excellent vision.
It was a fantastic all-round display from a player who is becoming more and more coveted.
And one team that may be kicking themselves following the performance is Tottenham Hotspur.
The north Londoners were supposedly keen to sign Ndombele in the summer, as reported by Sky Sports, but no official bid was ever lodged.
To make matters worse, Ndombele recently signed a new five-year deal at Lyon, which will only have increased his market value.
If he continues to star on the Champions League stage, that value will skyrocket.
The perfect Mousa Dembele replacement?
At the Etihad, Ndombele showcased what he is all about.
The midfield dynamo was all-action. He completely ran the show as David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho uncharacteristically struggled.
Ndombele was fearless in the face of quality and totally unawed by the occasion.
It was a highly impressive performance for one still so young (21).
With the Spurs link in mind, what became apparent very quickly was how similar he is to Mousa Dembele, who has been reported to fancy a move to Juventus.
Dembele has been one of the top holding midfielders in English football for years.
However, it appears that his mind could be elsewhere.
Spurs must make contact again
Daniel Levy simply must try and ignite a deal for the starlet in January.
Dembele would be able to commit to a pre-contract agreement with another team by then, so the club would need to sort a replacement quickly.
Spurs made an error not trying harder to sign Ndombele this summer. They must rectify this mistake, or another team will swoop.
It will mean taking a financial hit, but at least they’d have a potentially world-class box-to-box midfielder on their hands.
