Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro was in international action on Friday night as Spain faced Colombia in London.

The Spurs ace has been a key player for Ange Postecoglou this season, registering 27 appearances including 25 in the Premier League.

Porro has registered one goal for Tottenham – in the FA Cup – and, more crucially, has weighed in with an impressive eight assists in the league.

However, the Spurs man is finding game time for La Roja harder to come by. Since making his debut in March 2021, he has only won three caps.

How did Tottenham defender Pedro Porro fare for Spain against Colombia?

Porro has now been handed a rare opportunity to stake a claim for more game time for Spain, and perhaps even make a late push for Euro 2024.

However, the 24-year-old didn’t exactly cover himself in glory at the London Stadium on Friday night.

Spain fell to a 1-0 loss to Colombia, and Porro was panned by a few Spanish outlets for how he performed.

For instance, Sport gave the Spurs man a 3 out of 10 rating, summing up his performance as ‘crushed’.

‘The Colombian star, Luis Diaz, took on him head on’, they wrote of the £130,000-a-week Tottenham ace (Salarysport).

‘In the first half he had the collaboration of Vivian, but in the second the hole was bigger and led to the winning goal.’

Meanwhile, Marca gave Porro a 5 out of 10 rating, writing: ‘He had not played for Spain since March 28, 2023 in a match against Scotland. Today he returned to the XI.

‘He was encouraged to go on the attack as the minutes passed, and he hit a dangerous volley in the 69th minute. He suffered with Luis Diaz.’

It’s a shame Porro didn’t have a good outing for Spain. Hopefully he gets another chance when Spain take on Brazil on Tuesday, in their second friendly of the international break.

The Spurs ace needs to really step it up in training to get another opportunity this month and then he’ll need to impress against the five-time World Cup winners if he wants to stake a claim for Euro 2024.
