National media praises “8/10” international display from Arsenal teenager
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka received an 8/10 from national media for his England display on Wednesday.
Gunners youngster Saka, 19, was the match-winner last night for the Three Lions.
The left-footed winger scored the only goal of the contest in England’s 1-0 win over Austria, and he showed why he’s part of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020.
With a host of players yet to join the England squad due to club games in European finals, Southgate had the chance to look at some other areas of the squad.
Saka showed his quality against Austria with a brilliant left-footed finish from a tight angle into an open net.
Fortunately, he’s got the versatility to play in most areas of the pitch, including both wide positions. Additionally, he slots in seamlessly as a wing-back.
The Arsenal teenager thrived in a left-winger position yesterday, but it’ll be interesting to see how big a role he plays in the Euros.
He earned an 8/10 rating from Sky Sports for his latest England display.
“Deployed on the left of an initial 4-2-3-1 set-up and sharp from the off. Quick feet and direct running but always harrying to regain possession, too. First England goal caps a fine week for the youngster who was a shining light in Arsenal’s gloomy season,” Sky Sports wrote.
Saka the present for Arsenal, but is he for England?
Despite being so young, there is no doubt Saka is one of the key players in the Arsenal squad. He scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in 46 games across all competitions this season.
His progression from the north London club’s academy makes his rise even better.
However, whether he’s ready to be a talisman for England too remains to be seen.
He deserves his spot in the England squad, but for the attacking areas of the pitch the competition is ridiculous high.
The speedster may be in the squad as great cover this summer.
