Tottenham Hotspur target Riccardo Calafiori has been compared to Manchester City star John Stones.

Spurs have had two fantastic transfer windows under Ange Postecoglou. After years of frustration for fans, their side finally mean business, and they’re already looking ahead to the summer. Calafiori has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Tottenham have improved their defence massively over the past 18 months.

Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro form a really strong backline and are perfect for how Ange Postecoglou wants his side to play.

Spurs brought in Radu Dragusin last month to further bolster their defence, but reports have claimed that the North Londoners are eyeing more defenders.

One name that has come out of the Tottenham rumour mill is Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori. Spurs are said to be really keen to sign him.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (7th February 2024, page 17) claim that Califiori’s transfer value has more than quadrupled over the last year – he is worth £25.6 million now.

The outlet further describes the 21-year-old as a ‘total’ defender who, thanks to manager Thiago Motta’s influence, has been turned ‘into a John Stones‘.

That’s because even though he is naturally a central defender, he can play as a full-back and also in defensive midfield – just like Stones has done under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Calafiori would be a great signing for Tottenham

Tottenham‘s first-choice back four is absolutely fantastic, but they still have work to do to increase their squad depth.

Radu Dragusin was brought in and he’s a solid addition. He can fill in for Cristian Romero if the Argentine is unavailable and take Micky van de Ven‘s place too – even though he’s right-footed.

Riccardo Calafiori would increase Spurs’ squad depth even more. The Italian can play as a centre-half as well as a left-back. He’s capable of moving forward to midfield too.

That would give Ange Postecoglou plenty of options, and at just £25.6 million, we think he’d be a bargain for Tottenham.
