Nathaniel Clyne’s Liverpool exit makes sense amid Cardiff interest

Liverpool signed defender Nathaniel Clyne for £12.5million (BBC) from Southampton three years ago and he was a regular in the side during the start of his time at Anfield.

But the right-back missed the majority of the 2017/18 season with a long-term back injury and this campaign has struggled for opportunities.

The 27-year-old has failed to make a single Premier League appearance this term, with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in front of him in the full-back pecking order.

He’s had quite a fall from grace from being a regular for both Liverpool and England’s senior national side, to someone sat on the sidelines at Merseyside.

According to Wales Online, Premier League outfit Cardiff City are lining up a move to sign Clyne on loan in January.

The report details that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is prepared to offload the defender in the New Year and there could be competition for his signature.

Liverpool clearly have enough cover in their squad to cope with Clyne, who has made just one first-team appearance this season in the Carabao Cup.

He should be coming to the peak years of his career at his age and the opportunity to do that at Anfield just doesn’t exit anymore.
