Everton’s under-23 team took one step closer to being crowned champions of the Premier League 2 after beating rivals Liverpool in the mini Merseyside derby.

Nathan Broadhead scored both goals for Everton as they cruised to a 2-0 win over the Reds.

And Broadhead’s latest performance simply highlights just how promising a young player he is, with a first-team call-up surely within reach.

Marco Silva has already taken a look at Broadhead this season in a mid-season friendly game against Gor Mahia.

Broadhead took his opportunity in that fixture, coming off the bench and scoring in a 4-0 win at Goodison Park.

The Wales under-21 starlet is a versatile forward who can operate from both wings or through the middle and he can also use both feet.

Silva must surely be considering a first-team promotion for Broadhead after the youngster took both his goals well for the under-23 team.

The next challenge for the 20-year-old is to step up to senior football and Everton might have the opportunity to offer him just that.

If their Europa League hopes fade in the coming weeks, then there will be little to play for other than pride and a few league positions.

Silva should give Broadhead his chance in the first-team if Everton are in mid-table with several games remaining.
