According to a report by The Mirror, Everton would consider selling Idrissa Gana Gueye for £40m.
Gueye is a key target for Paris Saint-Germain with the French giants pondering a major bid for the Everton midfielder.
If Everton lose the 29-year-old, then Marco Silva needs to reconsider his options in midfield.
According to Who Scored, Gueye has made 47 interceptions, 37 blocks and 83 tackles in 20 Premier League matches.
This demonstrates just how big a role the Senegal international plays in protecting his defence as the holding midfield man.
Gueye’s potential departure would leave a major void in the midfield and Everton would need a new defensive midfielder to replace him.
Napoli’s Amadou Diawara could be the ideal candidate and Everton are reportedly interested, as per Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss via talkSPORT.
The 21-year-old could be a ready-made replacement for Gueye and a long-term solution in central midfield.
Diawara has been in and out of the Napoli team this season, playing 12 games. In 11 Serie A matches, Diawara has made 12 tackles, 11 interceptions and five blocks, as per Who Scored.
The Guinea international is quick, strong and a good option to have sitting in front of the defence.
Gueye’s exit will hurt Everton if it happens, but Diawara’s arrival would ease that pain.
