Vinny O’Connor has told Sky Sports News that Demarai Gray is currently completing his Everton medical abroad.
Medical pending
Everton are now on the verge of competing a triple signing today.
Both Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend are expected to move to Goodison Park later today, with the players both having medicals at Finch Farm.
But Gray will actually have his medical assessment abroad, before joining Everton’s players on their pre-season tour of America.
“[The deal is] not quite at the stage of Townsend and Begovic, but edging closer,” O’Connor said, when asked for an update.
“We understand that he is due to have his medical today, but that will happen abroad.
‘The issue facing Everton at the minute is getting the necessary paperwork done, so he can fly out with the squad to Florida or at least join up with the squad there.
“That’s getting done abroad at the minute, Gray undergoing a medical at Everton today ahead of a £1.5 million move from Leverkusen.
‘That deal appears to be nailed on.”

Point to prove
When Gray arrives at Everton he will do so with a point to prove.
The England youth international has always been talked up as a player with high potential, but he is yet to really develop into a first-team star.
Even out of the English spotlight, Gray’s impact on Leverkusen’s side, perhaps, wasn’t as big as expected.
In the short-term at Everton, Gray is likely to arrive as an impact substitute.
But if he can start showing his class on a more consistent basis then he could turn into a real bargain buy for the Toffees in the years ahead.
