Liverpool welcomed Naby Keita into their fold this summer after agreeing a deal to sign him back in August last year. The Reds paid around £52.75 million for the player this summer after he spent one last term with German side RB Leipzig.

The midfielder is undoubtedly a brilliant addition to the Liverpool fold. The swashbuckling dynamo is the energetic and tireless midfielder that Jurgen Klopp has wanted at Anfield for some time.

In fact, you can trace back such a need to the January transfer window in 2016. Back then Liverpool and Klopp were dying to get their hands on the Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira.

Liverpool were heavily linked with the lung-busting midfielder that winter. However, Liverpool never managed to agree a fee with his Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. Chinese side Jiansu Suning swooped in with an incredible deal for the player, reported by The Guardian to be worth around £38 million, smashing the Chinese transfer record.

It looked to be a big blow for Liverpool. The attacking midfielder had just scored 26 goals in 25 games in the first half of the 2015-16 season from midfield.

Liverpool never truly signed a player of similar ilk. That is, until now. Keita is an extremely similar player to the Brazilian and Liverpool will hope this missing piece of the puzzle gives Klopp the impetus to take the Reds to silverware this season.
