Nabil Fekir’s brother has made it clear to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo that his sibling will not be leaving Real Betis this summer, in a blow to Newcastle United’s reported interest in the French World Cup winner.
As reported by Foot Mercato, the Real Betis star is a target for Newcastle who could soon be in a position to make a move because of an upcoming Saudi-backed takeover.
An apparent €50 million (£43.5 million) interest is present and Newcastle are hopeful of putting a deal together.
It would be an ideal marquee signing for the Magpies and act as a statement of intent regarding their hopes of joining the Premier League under their new owners.
But according to Fekir’s little brother Yassin, who is also contracted to Real Betis, the 26-year-old has no intention of leaving the Spanish club this summer.
“My brother is very happy in Seville and at Betis. He is very happy to be able to face this new challenge in his career and feel the support of the fans.”
Despite the apparent financial influx at Newcastle a move for Fekir always seemed ambitious. He only joined Betis last summer and is just finding his feet in Spain. It is also generally believed that Fekir would like to one day play for Barcelona, which would be helped by a good portfolio of form in La Liga with the Verdiblancos.
It appears Fekir is a name that can be scrubbed from the Newcastle United wishlist.
