Leeds United produced one of the great Premier League comebacks against Bournemouth yesterday.

Jesse Marsch’s side found themselves 3-1 down with half an hour to play, and were staring down the barrel of a worrying defeat.

However, speaking to the club’s official website, Marsch hailed his side’s response in the final 30 minutes.

Sam Greenwood, Liam Cooper and Crysencio Summerville sent Elland Road into raptures with their second-half goals.

It was an exceptional turnaround from Leeds, who immediately had the momentum once Greenwood’s fantastic goal hit the back of the net.

After the game, Marsch shared what he said to his Leeds players at half-time.

Despite Rodrigo’s early goal, Leeds once again went into the break behind, and didn’t receive a good reception from the Elland Road faithful.

However, it was the home fans who went home with a smile on their face after witnessing a phenomenal comeback.

Marsch shares what he said at half-time

The American manager reflected after the match on what was said to help focus his players going into the second half.

“The swaying in the crowd, it becomes a mob mentality sometimes, when things aren’t going well, they tend to find ways to be negative,” Marsch said.

“My message at half-time was, ‘don’t worry about the mood of the crowd right now.

“’Stay focused and disciplined on the way we want to play, and we will find ourselves more and more into the match, and then we will find our goals and find a way to push it.’

“The sad part was we made it even more difficult by going down 3-1, but the guys stuck with it.”

Marsch showed how much faith he had in Leeds’ young players by bringing on Willy Gnonto and Greenwood for the second-half.

Both players paid off that faith, and clearly reacted to what Marsch said at half-time yesterday.

Summerville scored his third late goal on the bounce yesterday to earn Leeds an invaluable three points.

He was praised for how he won Leeds’ penalty in the first half, before his composed finish in the final moments.

Despite conceding three goals, Illan Meslier also produced a number of fine saves to keep his side in the contest.

Leeds now have a cup match against Wolves and a trip to Tottenham to prepare for before the World Cup break.
