'My information is': Journalist shares what Charlie Kane is now planning to do at Tottenham

Ian McGarry has told the Transfer Window podcast that Charlie Kane is now planning to negotiate an improved contract for Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur.

Bigger contract?

Kane missed out on a move to Manchester City over the summer, despite his representatives seemingly trying a number of tricks to try and pressurise Tottenham into a sale.

Daniel Levy stood firm though, with City simply not paying anywhere near enough to convince Tottenham to sell their star man.

The problem for Spurs is that Kane, despite saying he will stay, apparently sees his future elsewhere.

And Charlie Kane now wants to negotiate a deal which will increase Kane’s wages, but see him have a set release clause.

“My information is that Kane’s position now is that his representative, who is his brother, Charlie Kane, is hopeful of negotiating an upgrade on Kane’s current contract,” McGarry said.

“That would include a release clause, meaning that Kane could leave next summer or indeed in January for a set fee, rather than the haggling which went on during the last few months between City and Tottenham.

“Kane himself still sees his future as playing in a team that will win trophies, something that he has not experienced.”

Will Tottenham agree?

Whether Tottenham will agree to such a contract remains to be seen.

If Kane does sign an extension it does, of course, reduce the risk of Spurs losing the England captain on a free transfer.

But it could be difficult to find a release clause price that Charlie Kane and Levy both agree to.

Kane has previously suggested that he values himself at around £100 million, but for Tottenham he is worth far more than that.

Kane has started featuring again for Spurs now, and already has two goals to his name this season.

The 28-year-old currently has three years left on his deal at Tottenham, meaning that they are under no immediate pressure to reach an agreement.
