Former Liverpool man, Steve Nicol, has urged the Reds to go all out and spend big money on RB Leipzig defender, Dayot Upamecano.
Nicol was speaking to ESPN about the current problems Liverpool are encountering, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both ruled for most of, if not all, the season.

The Reds are expected to make a move for a new defender in January. A number of names have been mentioned including the likes of Ozan Kabak, Kalidou Kouliably, and the aforementioned Upamecano.
And Nicol believes that the Reds’ hand has now been forced and Upamecano is a must buy for the club.
“Oh my goodness, [Liverpool’s title chances] drop a good 20, 25 per cent from where they were, without Van Dijk. I think right now Liverpool absolutely, because of this injury, have to go out and spend a lot of money.
“You’re talking about percentages of Liverpool defending [the title], you talk about percentages of a player having another bad injury. So I think this forces them into it and they should go and get Upamecano.”
Liverpool will face a battle to sign the Frenchman, who is seen as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Indeed, the Daily Mail have claimed Man United could move for the Leipzig star, with an apparent £38m release-clause not something that will put too many off in January or the summer.
In an ideal world, Upamecano arrives – TBR View
Nicol is talking here in the sense of the perfect signing and Upamecano would certainly be that. He’d be able to slot straight into the side in the immediate term and would also be a star player for years to come.
£38m is not a lot of money for a top young defender in world football. Liverpool, then, simply have to act and signing someone like Upamecano could be the difference between them winning the title again or not.
