'My expectation': Conte demands even more from Lucas Moura after Norwich goal
Lucas Moura might have scored a fine goal for Tottenham today against Norwich City, but his manager Antonio Conte is not willing to let him rest on his laurels.
The Brazilian has become a key member of this Spurs squad. He continues to contribute, and Spurs fans are always confident they’ll get a 100%, full blooded performance from the former PSG man.
Lucas’ goal today was his first in the Premier League all season. Indeed, it was just his third overall in all competitions for the North Londoners. And speaking to Football.London following the win over Norwich, Spurs boss Conte insisted he wants to see even more from Moura.
“He scored a fantastic goal but he has the quality to score more goals and he has to score more goals. It is my expectation to see more goals like this from him,” Conte said.
With Harry Kane not firing either, Conte will be hoping more of his squad can contribute. Heung-MIn Son continues to do his bit, while Davinson Sanchez also chipped in today from the back.
Lucas, then, will no doubt need to heed the words of his new manager of be left wanting.
TBR’s View: Lucas has to improve goalscoring record for Tottenham
Being frank, this isn’t the first season where Lucas Moura needs to be adding more goals. Last term, he got nine in all competitions, with just three coming in the PL. For a player making 50 appearances a season from attacking areas, it’s simply not good enough.
Conte, then, is right to call out Lucas on his goals record. The Brazilian is, after all, selected to contribute at the top of the pitch where it matters.
Hopefully, for Spurs fans anyway, this can kickstart Lucas into a bit of a run. He keeps getting chances under Conte, so if he can deliver the goals, then he can be a key performer.
