Bruno Guimaraes has claimed he’d love it if Lyon midfielder and reported Arsenal target Lucas Paqueta joined Newcastle United this summer.

The Magpies have looked a completely different side over the last few weeks. and Guimaraes is one of the biggest reasons why. The Brazilian has been absolutely outstanding for Newcastle, and he could well lead them into a top-half finish in the Premier League.

It has to be said that Newcastle’s January business was spot on. Guimaraes cost a lot of money, but he’s proving to be worth every penny, and the fact that he’s still only 24 means he’ll only get better.

What On Earth Is Going On At Bordeaux?

If Eddie Howe’s looking for a transfer blueprint for the summer, he can’t go wrong with a Brazilian from Lyon. That could well be Paqueta, who Guimaraes says he’d love to have at Newcastle.

Bruno Guimaraes: I’d love Arsenal-linked Lucas Paqueta at Newcastle

In an interview with ESPN Brasil, Guimaraes was asked about his former teammate joining him at Newcastle this summer.

The Newcastle star said: “It would be my dream.

“Paquetá is my best friend, we made a relationship, not only on the field, but we lived together all the time outside. Our wives together too.

“It was really a brotherly relationship, we still talk every day. It would be really cool if he could come here, but I can’t do this job.”

Mikel Arteta wants him at the Emirates

CalcioMercato reported back in March that Arsenal are battling Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain to sign Paqueta this summer.

The Gunners are expected to have a big window again before the start of next season with Arteta looking to strengthen multiple areas of the pitch. Midfield is one area where they’d like a talented player and Paqueta, who has been brilliant for Lyon this term, is reportedly an option.

The 24-year-old Brazilian, branded as ‘amazing’ and ‘extraordinary’ by Peter Bosz, has scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions this season. That is a really impressive record and it’s no surprise he’s been linked with a move away.

It will be interesting to see where Paqueta will end up this summer. Arsenal are said to be keen, but if Newcastle go in with an offer and his good pal Guimaraes rings him to put in a good word, the Magpies could well get him.
