Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara has responded to rumours linking him with a move to Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona in January.

Xavi took charge of the Catalans earlier this month and plenty of rumours have been flying around Camp Nou since. One of the biggest ones is his reported interest in Thiago, a player he once played with.

Mundo Deportivo reported not too long ago that Xavi wants Thiago on loan at Barcelona in January. After Dani Alves’ return to Camp Nou, the new Catalans boss reportedly believes that the Liverpool man would fit into his system really well.

Thiago was asked about potentially leaving Anfield in January yesterday. Here’s what he said…

Thiago on Barcelona links: I’m not concerned about rumours

The Spaniard faced the media in a press conference yesterday ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Porto. Thiago rubbished all rumours linking him away from the club in January.

He said: “As I always have been, I am a guy who plays football and I am not concerned about the rumours.

“I am focused on the duty I have with my team, the years I have with my contract with my team.

“I just want to know about this, about this new adventure I have here in the Premier League, trying to win all the trophies I can and my commitment is maximum with this team.”

That should end all the speculation surrounding his future.

A return to Barcelona would’ve been a fairytale story for Thiago. It all began for him there and playing under his former teammate Xavi would’ve been a fantastic opportunity as well.

However, Thiago claims he is committed to Liverpool and has no plans of leaving the club. He wants to win trophies under Jurgen Klopp and Reds fans will absolutely love how he dismissed all the rumours yesterday.

Thiago, labelled as ‘unbelievable’ by Nat Phillips, still has over two-and-a-half years left on his contract. If things go to plan, he may not leave Liverpool until 2024, but it will be interesting to see what the Reds will do if a substantial offer comes in from Barcelona in January or in the summer.
