A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to urge Spurs to appoint Lille director of football Luis Campos in wake of John McDermott’s impending departure from Hotspur Way.

Tottenham confirmed on Friday that McDermott is to leave his role as Head of Academy Coaching and Player Development to take up the position of Assistant Technical Director at the Football Association.

While the departure of a coach may not necessarily provoke as much reaction amongst as the departure of a player or manager, Spurs have a big job now in replacing a man previously described as “the best in the business” by current Liverpool academy head Alex Inglethorpe (Coaches Voice).

McDermott, the man responsible for developing numerous players who have shined at Tottenham including Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Danny Rose, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend, was at Spurs for 15 years.

In response to the Tottenham club announcement relating to McDermott’s impending departure, many Spurs fans called for the club to raid Lille once again, Jose Mourinho having appointed Nuno Santos and Joao Sacramento from the French club.

As per Bleacher Report, Campos, 55, has built up a reputation as one of football’s leading talent-spotters, having helped launch the careers of Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, Anthony Martial and Nicolas Pepe to name but a few.
