'Must be kept': Some Newcastle United fans react to reports of Leeds joining £6m Jacob Murphy race
Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by The Sun, which claimed Leeds have joined Southampton and Burnley in the race to sign Jacob Murphy.
The Saints and Clarets registered their interest in Murphy earlier this month against keen glances from Rangers and Watford, with the 26-year-old set to enter the final year of his contract this summer.
Newcastle have planned talks with the versatile dynamo who has established a key role for himself under Steve Bruce at wing-back of late, but the lack of progress has alerted Leeds chiefs to the potential of a £6million deal.
Porto and Bayer Leverkusen are also thought to be presenting European competition for Murphy’s signature, with the boyhood Magpies supporter standing out amid the Toon’s fight for Premier League survival.
Murphy contributed the first goal as Newcastle came from behind to beat Burnley last month and provided the assist for the late equaliser away to Aston Villa in March, doubling his tallies in both accounts over 24 Premier League appearances, of which he has started 15.
The £25,000-per-week (Spotrac) talent hast started Newcastle’s last seven top-flight games, in which Bruce’s side have taken three wins and two draws – only failing to take any points at home to Arsenal and Manchester City, against whom he still impressed.
Here’s how these United fans reacted to the growing interest in Murphy’s situation…
I think he’s been a revelation at RB. More time in the role, and you’ll see better all round performances. Definitely keep hold

He’s improved a lot second half of the season. Definitely offer him a new deal if the alternative is losing him on a free to relegation rivals next season. He has the work rate to play for Leeds.

He’s a great player….I hope he stays.
