Murty heaps praise on Kennedy and Mebude for their link-up play in Rangers U19 win

Rangers coach Graeme Murty has hailed the link-up play between Kai Kennedy and Dapo Mebude, the club’s official website reports.

After Rangers U19s recorded a 2-0 win over Slovan Bratislava’s academy side, Murty singled out Kennedy and Mebude. He believes they combine well and play to a “very high standard”.

Kennedy was the architect for the Rangers colt side last night. The 17-year-old is still very young but he makes things happen with his technical ability and vision.

It was Kennedy that created the first goal. The Scotland youth starlet opened up the Bratislava defence and his pass was tapped in by Mebude, who continued his fine goalscoring form.

Then, Kennedy picked up his second assist later in the game. He received a short corner and his cross was headed in by Nathan Young-Coombes.

After the game, Murty raved about these two teenagers. He told RangersTV: “I thought once we accessed the other side of the pitch better, we isolated opponents better, though I thought in the first-half, Kai Kennedy, in particular, was really, really good at seizing opportunities to drive into good spaces and his combination with Dapo and his play in and around the box is very, very good and is a very high standard.

“I thought he played very well tonight and we just needed that extra touch at times because of the surface and that killed our combinations at times.”

TBR’s view

Kennedy and Mebude are two players who could be pushing for Rangers matches in the not-so-distant future. Kennedy certainly has the technical ability to make it all the way if he continues to develop at this rate.

Mebude, on the other hand, has a tougher job breaking into the team as a striker. But if he keeps scoring, then he will eventually get his chance.
